Governors

All members of the governing body are dedicated to our school.  We work as a team to help make decisions for the school and both support and challenge the head to ensure we continuously improve our offer for our children and families.

Governors bring many skills and experiences to their role in supporting, promoting and protecting the interests of the school, its pupils and its staff and are an important link between the school and its local community.

Our Governing board, along with all other Governing boards, no matter what type of schools or how many schools they govern, have three core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

In our school, the full board meets regularly and at least once a term over an academic year. Specific governors take on lead roles - operating a particular portfolio - for example Safeguarding, Finance or SEND amongst others. Any work undertaken by the Lead Governors is reported back to the full board.

In addition, the board has a pay and performance committee, which meets three times a year, with delegated responsibility for ensuring that staff appraisal is appropriately carried out.

There are two further committees which only meet if there is a need for them to do so.  These committees are convened to consider any formal proceedings, such as a staff disciplinary issue or the permanent exclusion of a pupil.

The terms of reference below for each of these committees explains what delegated authority the committee or individual has been given to make decisions on behalf of the board.

Please contact our Clerk to Governors, Natalie Stanbury, in the first instance for further information on any aspect of governance.
